SPITTING IMAGE PUBLICITY
Finally, after a trial shoot in 2019 for the TV pilot, Britbox went ahead and commissioned a new series, along with publicity photos, all shot by me.
This may look straightforward, but I got ten mins with each character in two set ups-each puppet has 2-3 puppeteers working them. This requires correct puppet eyelines and minimum human body appearance. All of the shoots were completed under Covid restrictions on set during filming. I knew there would be a lot of interest, but it's still amazing to see the photos being used in every conceivable way, from drivable digital displays to the whole entrance to Westminster Underground station. EVEN THE PRIME MINISTER COMMENTED ON IT!
Prince Andrew/Newsnight interview:
Well, it's one thing being called the night before to a mystery job; it's quite another when the location and subject were finally revealed as the door to the Palace room was opened..
The front cover to almost every main newspaper in the world for a few weeks. Phew! Good job I own the copyright.
SKY NEWS interview from 2019.
Wow, after making the final edit for three years on the trot, I have made the edit of winners of the 2019 Portrait of Britain Award, for the published book version (and not the digital displays).
Strangely, this was an image shot specially for the competition-something I've not done before . Planning next year's entry as we speak..
WIN! My Liberty Choir brochure picked up a Bronze Award and People's Choice in the Creative Pool Annual 2019, as well as an Honorable Mention in the Portrait Section of The B/W Spider Awards. My thanks to Caz Roberts and Ginny Dougary for all their help with this.
There's nothing better than when a layout adds to the shot and I think this is one if those times. Jess Phillips had tattoos on her feet, which is unusual for an MP, so I wanted to find a way of seeing them despite the small space we were working in. They also gave the layout a shape to work around especially on a DPS.
This is an article on the National Portrait Gallery acquisition of my Jacob Rees-Mogg image which hung in the gallery until Jan 2019.
The passing of Johnny Hallyday was a moment of national grief for France. Many magazines made use of images that I took of Johnny on a visit he made to London. I particularly remember his entrance to the hotel room-even if you had no idea who he was, you would know that he was a star.
Having been variously, a Nominee and Winner over the last five years, one of my images of 'Mad' Frankie Fraser, has been selected as a Nominee for the 2019, 14th Spider Awards in the USA. I wish more of my work could be seen (and shot) in black & white.
Sometimes I photograph things, as well as people.
